Executive Summary
Launching a new business requires more than a logo and a website. It requires a strategy.
When the founders of AXIS Ride Collective approached me, they had a vision for a premium rhythm-based indoor cycling studio in Barrhaven, Ottawa. They wanted to create more than a place to work out. They wanted to build a community where people felt challenged, supported, and excited to come back ride after ride.
Because the business was brand new, there wasn’t an existing identity or website to redesign. Everything needed to be created from the ground up, including the logo, visual identity, website strategy, customer journey, content structure, and digital launch experience.
Working closely with the founders, I developed a custom brand and WordPress website designed to build anticipation before opening, answer the questions new riders naturally have, and make booking a class as simple as possible.
The result was a launch that generated excitement before the studio even opened its doors, including more than 400 email subscribers, sold-out opening day rides, and a waitlist before the official launch.

About AXIS Ride Collective
AXIS Ride Collective is a rhythm-based indoor cycling studio located in Barrhaven, Ottawa.
Founded by three passionate entrepreneurs, the studio was created to offer an energetic, welcoming, and community-focused cycling experience where riders of all fitness levels feel encouraged to show up exactly as they are.
Unlike traditional spin studios that can feel intimidating to newcomers, AXIS was built around the belief that movement should be empowering, inclusive, and fun.
That philosophy became the foundation for every branding and website decision throughout the project.

The Opportunity
Launching a new business is a unique challenge.
There are no existing customers to build trust with.
No website analytics to guide decisions.
No established messaging.
No previous branding.
Everything starts with a blank page.
That also creates an incredible opportunity.
Instead of trying to improve an existing website, I was able to design every part of the customer journey intentionally, ensuring every page, every call-to-action, and every design decision worked together to support the founders’ long-term goals.
From the beginning, the website needed to accomplish four things:
- Introduce a brand-new business with confidence.
- Build excitement before opening day.
- Make first-time riders feel comfortable.
- Convert curious visitors into booked riders.
Those objectives shaped every decision that followed.
Understanding the Audience
Before designing a single page, I spent time understanding the people the website needed to serve.
The founders weren’t simply opening another fitness studio. They were creating a space for people who wanted to feel challenged, connected, and welcomed.
That meant designing for two very different audiences:
Experienced Riders
People already familiar with rhythm-based indoor cycling who wanted information about memberships, schedules, instructors, and booking.
First-Time Riders
People who had never taken a cycling class before and needed reassurance before committing.
These visitors often have practical questions, including:
- What should I expect?
- Do I need cycling shoes?
- What should I wear?
- Is it beginner friendly?
- How do I book?
- How do memberships work?
Rather than making visitors search for those answers, I built the website around them.
That decision became one of the biggest user experience improvements throughout the project.

Why This Project Matters
Every website I design starts with strategy.
Beautiful visuals are important, but they only tell part of the story.
A successful website should answer questions before they’re asked, reduce friction, build trust, and make taking the next step feel effortless.
That’s exactly what I set out to create for AXIS Ride Collective.
By combining thoughtful branding, strategic website planning, and a seamless booking experience, the finished website doesn’t just showcase the studio. It supports the business behind it.
And that’s ultimately what great website design is about.
From Strategy to Brand Identity

Before opening the studio doors, AXIS Ride Collective needed something every successful business starts with: a clear and memorable brand.
Because this was a brand-new business, there wasn’t an existing identity to refresh or evolve. Every decision, from the logo to the colour palette and typography, would shape how the business was perceived from day one.
Rather than jumping straight into website design, I started by understanding the founders’ vision, their goals, and the experience they wanted riders to have both online and in the studio.
One thing became clear very quickly.
AXIS wasn’t trying to compete by being the biggest indoor cycling studio. They wanted to create a premium, welcoming community where people felt motivated, challenged, and excited to come back.
That became the foundation for every creative decision that followed.
A Collaborative Branding Process

One of the things I enjoy most about branding projects is collaboration.
The founders of AXIS Ride Collective were incredibly engaged throughout the design process, and together we explored several logo directions before arriving at the final identity.
Each concept helped us refine the brand further.
Some directions felt too aggressive.
Others felt too corporate.
The final logo struck the balance we were looking for: bold, modern, energetic, and confident, while still feeling approachable.
By taking the time to explore different directions, we created a visual identity that genuinely reflects the personality of the business rather than simply following current design trends.
Designer Insight
The strongest logos rarely happen on the first concept.
A successful branding process isn’t about finding a logo. It’s about exploring possibilities, asking the right questions, and refining the design until it feels like a natural extension of the business.
That collaborative process is where the strongest ideas emerge.

Building a Website Around the Customer Journey
Once the brand was established, I shifted my focus to the website.
Instead of asking,
“What pages should this website have?”
I asked,
“What does someone need to feel before they’re ready to book their first ride?”
That question changed everything.
Rather than treating the website as a digital brochure, I designed it as a guided experience.
Every page was intentionally planned to answer questions, build confidence, and remove obstacles.
The goal wasn’t simply to showcase the studio.
The goal was to help visitors become riders.

Designing a Homepage That Builds Excitement
The homepage had one job.
Make visitors want to experience AXIS.
From the moment someone lands on the website, they’re introduced to dramatic photography, bold typography, and messaging that reflects the energy of the studio.
Rather than overwhelming visitors with large amounts of text, the homepage quickly introduces the brand before guiding users toward the information they’re most likely looking for.
This includes:
- Booking a class
- Learning about memberships
- Understanding what makes AXIS different
- Meeting the instructors
- Finding answers to common questions
Every section naturally encourages visitors to continue exploring while making the next step obvious.

Designer Insight
People don’t read websites from top to bottom. They scan.
That’s why I design homepage sections to answer one question at a time, giving visitors clear visual cues about where to go next without making them think.
When navigation feels effortless, people stay longer and are more likely to take action.
Making First-Time Riders Feel Comfortable
One of my favourite parts of this project was creating the New Riders page.
It’s easy to assume visitors will figure things out for themselves.
In reality, uncertainty is one of the biggest reasons people leave a website without taking action.
For someone who’s never attended an indoor cycling class before, even small questions can become barriers.
Do I need special shoes?
Where do I park?
What should I wear?
Is this class suitable for beginners?
Instead of hiding those answers throughout the website, I brought them together into one dedicated page that helps first-time riders feel informed before they ever step into the studio.
By reducing uncertainty, the website removes friction from the booking process and helps visitors feel confident taking the next step.

Creating a Seamless Booking Experience
A beautiful website means very little if booking a class feels frustrating.
That’s why integrating Mariana Tek was an important part of the project.
Rather than sending visitors through a confusing process, the booking experience was designed to feel like a natural extension of the website.
Visitors can easily browse the class schedule, purchase memberships, and reserve their first ride with minimal effort.
Reducing unnecessary clicks and simplifying the booking journey helps transform interested visitors into paying customers.

Designer Insight
Every extra step in a booking process creates an opportunity for someone to leave.
Whenever I design a service-based website, I look for ways to remove friction so visitors can move from curiosity to action as smoothly as possible.
Results
A successful website isn’t measured solely by how it looks. It’s measured by how well it supports the business behind it.
Before AXIS Ride Collective officially opened its doors, the website had already become an important part of the studio’s launch strategy.
The Coming Soon page helped build anticipation while collecting more than 400 email subscribers, giving the founders an engaged audience before launch.
When opening day arrived, the excitement continued. The founders’ first rides sold out, a waitlist was created before the studio officially opened, and the launch generated significant engagement across social media.
For a brand-new business, creating this kind of momentum before opening day is incredibly valuable. It demonstrates the impact of combining thoughtful branding, strategic website design, and a clear launch plan.
Behind the Design
One of my biggest goals throughout this project wasn’t simply creating a beautiful website.
It was creating confidence.
Trying a new fitness studio can feel intimidating, especially for someone who has never experienced rhythm-based indoor cycling before.
That’s why every design decision was made with the rider in mind.
The dedicated New Riders page answers common questions before visitors need to ask them.
The simplified navigation makes information easy to find.
The bold visual identity reflects the energy inside the studio.
The integrated booking experience removes unnecessary friction between discovering the studio and booking a class.
Great websites don’t just look professional.
They help people feel confident enough to take the next step.

Do you only design websites for fitness businesses?
No. While AXIS Ride Collective is an indoor cycling studio, I work with a wide variety of service-based businesses across Ottawa and beyond.
